It keeps one inventory in step across the marketplaces you sell on. A guitar you list once goes up on the others, with the right price on each; when it sells anywhere, it comes down everywhere else. Underneath that it tracks what each guitar really made after fees, repairs and shipping.
Which marketplaces does it work with?
Reverb, eBay and Sweetwater Gear Exchange today. Connecting a new Shopify store opens soon, once Shopify has approved Backline's app.
Do I have to list on Reverb?
No. Most shops keep listing on Reverb, because a listing made there joins its model page, which is where most of a Reverb listing's views come from — and Backline copies each one everywhere else. You can instead enter a guitar in Backline and have it go up everywhere, Reverb included. Pick one when you set up; it stays fixed once the first listing has synced.
How quickly does a sold guitar come down?
It depends on how the marketplace reports a sale. Where it tells Backline straight away, the guitar comes down everywhere else within seconds. A sale on Reverb is seen within fifteen minutes, and one on eBay within the hour, because there Backline has to ask. It narrows the window in which a guitar could sell twice; no tool can close it completely.
Will it change my listings without asking?
Not until you say so. When you set up, Backline shows a preview — every listing it would put up, change or take down — and nothing happens until you switch sync on. You can pause it at any time.
Can each marketplace have its own price?
Yes. Each marketplace has a price rule: a percentage up or down from your price, rounded to a step you choose. Leave a marketplace at the same price and it is exactly the same price, to the cent.
What do I need for Sweetwater Gear Exchange?
Sweetwater turns on API access for a seller on request, so ask their Gear Exchange team for a key. Sweetwater also only accepts requests from addresses it has approved, and Backline supplies the address; the Connections page has the details.
What does the trial include?
Everything in Pro, for 7 days, with no card. Add a card any time during the trial to carry on; the first charge is on the day it ends.
What happens if my plan ends?
Backline stops listing and updating. For 30 days it still takes a guitar down everywhere when it sells anywhere, so nothing sells twice while you decide, and you can take everything it keeps in step down at once from the billing page. Your records stay in Backline either way.
Can my team use it?
Yes. Invite as many people as you like to your shop on Pro; owners and admins can change listings and settings.
Is my data safe?
Marketplace keys are stored encrypted, and each shop's records are kept apart from every other shop's in the database itself, not just in the app. The privacy policy has the detail.
